I've been off work for two weeks, using up some annual leave, because, why not?
It's been a fantastic time for me to pretty much do nothing except for focus on my writing.
I started the two weeks with a HUGE to do list and slowly, bit by bit, I've ticked off items.
What was a three A4 page list is now down to one A4 page... There's still so much I didn't get done, but that's okay, I'll get to it eventually.
Notably my biggest achievement during my two weeks off has been finishing the first draft of The Grey.
I've sent the first fifteen chapters to my beta readers and I've been working on fine turning the second half of the book so that I can send that off too.
I'm not gonna lie, I did cry a lot of tears over The Grey.
First drafts are always the hardest.
Though, technically the beta readers are seeing my second draft. Maybe first AND second drafts are the hardest?
Aside from beta reading I've done a huge change with my website. I was hosting with Jimdo but I've moved to Wix.
Of course, being a slight nerd, I'm excited about how many hours I spent fiddling with my new Wix website.
Hopefully it's more impressive than my Jimdo site.
I think it is.
Next thing on my to do list which is a task I've been DREADING is writing the blurb for The Grey.
Blurbs are mind boggling.
They make me pull my hair out.
I have a few ideas floating around in my mind but getting it on paper is a challenge.
Once I've figured out a draft* for the blurb I'll get to move on to the fun part - finding font inspiration for the person who is writing the blurb for The Grey..
The blurb for The White was written by character, Miles, but this time around, Miles doesn't have time for blurb writing. Someone else is taking that task.
I'm really excited to work out this characters handwriting, I really do believe handwriting tells a lot about a person!
*I say draft because I won't complete it without consulting my best friend and editor, Nicole. She knows this series better than I do (seriously), so I want her tick of approval.
Another thing I did during my time off that makes me super excited is photos for my website.
Until now, I've been using next to no imagery on my website and instead opted for a minimal design.
Now, I've had photos taken by my beautiful friend Brittney-Lee of Maloney Designs.
She's taken some absolutely gorgeous photos showcasing me and my debut novel The White.
You'll see these photos scattered all over my website.
Anyway, this turned into me rambling about stuff.
The point of this blog was to clarify why I am a workaholic.
Just like Layla Lewis, (who boasts personality traits based on me, of course) I'm addicted to my job.
I love it.
I love it so much I can't wait to get back there.
I've really missed my work wives and I've missed my desk!
